Where your money actually goes — and how BucketBooks keeps it straight.
A marketplace payout hides gross sales, fees, refunds, and reserves inside one number. BucketBooks pulls it apart, matches it to your bank, and files each piece where a tax form expects it. Here's the whole loop.
Connect your bank — securely, read-only
Link your existing bank and card accounts through Plaid. BucketBooks reads transactions; it can't move money. From then on, new activity syncs on a schedule and lands in your Overview.
- No switching banks — it runs on the accounts you already use.
- Scheduled auto-sync and automatic backups keep everything current.
Read-only by design
Bank access is for reading transactions only. Payments are handled separately by Stripe, and your card details never touch BucketBooks.
Import your settlements — the source of truth
Bring in your Amazon, Walmart, and eBay settlement reports. BucketBooks reads the gross sales and every fee, then matches the net payout to the deposit that hit your bank — so your revenue and fees are finally right, not guessed from the deposit.
Sort into tax-form buckets — rules first, AI second
Deterministic rules categorize what they recognize. For the rest, AI proposes a label and shows its reasoning — you approve or change it. The AI suggests categories; it never touches a number. Set a rule once and similar transactions sort themselves next time.
- Accounts map to Schedule C or Form 1120-S, 1120 or 1065 based on the entity's tax treatment.
- Entity-aware language — "stock basis" for an S-corp, "owner's equity" for a sole prop.
AI with guardrails
A suggestion reads like: "Looks like Advertising — recurring Amazon Ads charge, matches 14 prior transactions." You stay in control of the label; the math is never the AI's to change.
Review only the exceptions — then you're caught up
Your Overview leads with the handful of things that actually need a decision — an uncategorized charge, a deposit still missing its settlement. Everything else is already handled. Clear the queue and it says All caught up. That's the ten-minute month.
A weekly "This week" summary keeps you from ever falling behind — a few minutes now instead of a marathon in April.
Get filing-ready output — and take it with you
Your P&L, Schedule C view, tax summary, and owner's-basis (Form 7203) roll-forward are ready whenever you are. Every number traces back to the reconciled transactions underneath — so a tax pro can trust it, and so can you.
- Provenance everywhere — "YTD net profit, from your P&L →" links straight to the source.
- One-click full export — a SQLite file plus CSVs, on any plan, working even if you cancel.
No hostage
Your books are yours. Export the whole thing whenever you want — the export keeps working even on a lapsed subscription. Cancellation and export are as easy as signup.
